Presentation:  Processing Secondary Trauma for Clinicians.  This will explore secondary trauma's causes, symptoms, and effects, how to manage them, and treatment.  Ethical dilemmas will be discussed as well.

Featuring our guest speaker, Jean Llamas, president and owner of Care Navigators, Inc., and Care Guardians, NFP, Inc.  She has 30 years of experience as a Registered Nurse in a hospital setting, skilled home care, evaluation and set up of durable medical equipment, private duty nursing, utilization management, outpatient and inpatient care management, diabetic education, and insurance case management.  Jean holds a Masters of Nursing from Benedictine University and a bachelor's degree in nursing from Northern Illinois University.  She obtained ACM-RN certification from the American Case Management Association and CCM certification from the Commission for Case Manager Certification. Jean serves on the National Guardianship Association Board (NGA), CMSA AZ Board of Directors and works with the Aging Lifecare Association (ALCA) committee for conferences and grief support.

These key leadership concepts can be applied to your role as a Case Manager and discover areas in your daily practice that will benefit from employing leadership strategies.

Our second presenter, Denise McGinley, began her nursing career 50 years ago in Pittsburgh, PA.  From her first job in the ICU at Penn States Hershey Medical Center to her present role as an educator for the Gila River Healthcare System.  Her career, predominantly as a trauma/flight nurse, has been filled with unconventional roles and firsts. She serves as the longstanding medical director for the US martial arts team, and has provided care for the athletes of the Grand Canyon Pro Rodeo and the National Senior Pro Rodeos for the past 15 years. She recently established the Association of Sports Medicine Nurses, and is currently authoring the first Core Curriculum and certification testing guidelines. 

Denise is the recipient multiple awards including of the 2004 Frist Humanitarian Award, the 2012 IASIS Chairmans award and the 2012 Daisy Award for Nursing, the 2014 Phoenix Healthcare Heroes Award, the Arthritis Foundations’ 2014 Margaret Margaram Award for Public Health and the 2015  Patti Rettig award for Juvenile Arthritis Programming,  and the  2015 AONE/ AZ Action Coalition Leadership Award for Contributions to the Growth of Nursing. She was awarded Gold medals by the South African and British Martial Arts Awards Committees in 2016 and 2018 for her work at the World Games, and the Cowboy Courage Award and Arena Angel Award by the Grand Canyon Pro Rodeo Association in 2020.
